Manual & Patient Handling (People Moving)

This course is designed for healthcare workers who need to be trained to safely move and handle patients under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and Manual Handling Regulations 1993 and 2007 in a hospital, nursing home or home care setting. Up to date techniques are thought to ensure it is safe for the carer and client.


Manual & Patient Handling Course Objectives

• Know carer’s legal rights and responsibilities

• Understand how the musculoskeletal system can get injured

• Identify risk factors associated with patient handling

• Know the importance of treating patients with empathy, dignity and respect

• Be able to handle patients safely

Apply the principles of safe lifting to inanimate objects

• Dealing with fallen patients

• Use of hoists

• Principles of moving & handling

• Practical Session 1: Moving & Handling Inanimate Objects

• Trainee assessment

• Sling hoist with a range of slings

• A range of smaller items to assist with patient moving and handling
